Scoop the water, the moon is in your hands
Mizu O Kiku Sureba, Tsuki Te ni ari

Toy with the flowers and their fragrance scents your garments
Hana O Ro Sureba, Ka E ni Mitsu

These two lines are by Kido Chigu (1185 - 1269). When we scoop up water, the moon is in our hands; at the same time, it is in the sky. When we toy with the flowers, their fragrance permeates our garments. "I enter into you and you enter into me," as the saying goes.

Because of the poetic expression of perfect infusion, we may miss the point, so let me remind you that the point is: to scoop and to toy. To scoop and to toy are the deeds and are none other than the practice. Only through scooping and toying can moon and hand become one and fragrance and garment become truly inseparable.
